Success can come in many different ways, but when it comes to succeeding at ASU, one must have good time management skills, take responsibility for their education, and actually go to class. Briley E. Proctor, an Associate Professor of Educational Psychology and Learning Systems states that, “There are clear differences in study skills among students,” therefore every student needs to find a way that can help them perform well in college. One must take charge and get away from the habit of blaming everyone else for their mistakes. Take the initiative and prepare yourself to acquire different habits while at ASU
One major key to success is to acquire good time management skills. Students at ASU have to learn how to plan out their schedules so that they give themselves enough time to do whatever they have to do. When planning your class schedule, look at all the time slots available for your classes and see which one would fit you best. For instance, if you know that you have a hard time getting up in the morning, don’t schedule yourself to have a class that starts at 7:30 AM. Also, the majority of college students go to work while attending college and that can sometimes be a problem. If you are one of these students, schedule your classes around your work schedule and give yourself time for school. One can do that by working less and dedicating that time to studying or to finish an assignment that is due the next day. Besides school and work, one must give themselves time to be able to with family and friends. Yes, college can be stressing sometimes and that is why you need to give yourself time to relax. Not having a good sense of time management can prove devastating if you don’t plan carefully.
Another thing that will help a student be successful at ASU is to take responsibility for their own education. If a student is encountering problems with a certain professor because they can’t seem to understand them or their method of teaching, the student always has options. For example, a student could drop out of the class and enroll in a class with a different professor or they can talk to the professor and a figure out a method so that they can perform well in that class. Also, instead of going out to party for the night when you know you have a big exam the next day, one should decide to stay home and study for the big test. In college, everyone is on their own, and they must find ways to get through it to be a successful student.
Lastly, one of the best things a student could do to be successful is to show up to class. If a student doesn’t show up to class in the first place, how do they expect to get good grades? Everyone encounters problems in their lives and unexpected emergencies. If one of these were to happen to you, you could always email the professor letting them what happened or you could always have a friend in the classroom let you know what you missed. Other than that, there should be no excuses to why you missed class.
Having good time management skills, taking responsibility for your education, and going to class is what students at ASU need to do to become successful students. Without these, it will become extremely difficult and unbearable to the point where one starts to think about dropping out of school. Just acquire these handy tools and you will be well off on your way.
